What is Single Sign-On (SSO)?

Single Sign-On lets the members of a Team sign in to Inoreader through their organization's own identity provider, with their work email instead of an Inoreader password. The Team owner sets it up for one email domain in Manage Team > SSO. From then on, people with that domain sign in on the SSO page, and new colleagues get an account and a Team seat on their first sign-in.

How it works

Inoreader supports SAML 2.0. Once SSO is on, a member whose email is on the Team's domain signs in on the SSO page. How do I log in with SSO? walks through a sign-in. Members on that domain can no longer sign in with a password, and nobody can sign up with a password on that domain. The Team owner can still use a password. A signed-in SSO session is confirmed with the identity provider every 12 hours, and it ends when the provider refuses or the person has left the Team.

Someone on the domain who signs in for the first time without an Inoreader account gets one, with the name from the identity provider, joins the Team when a seat is free and receives the Team welcome email. An existing account that isn't a member of the Team is refused, and so is a new account when the Team is full. Where can I see my Team members and settings? covers seats.

Set up SSO

Only the Team owner can change the configuration. Other members see "Only the Team owner can modify your Team's Single Sign-On configuration."

  1. Click Team in the tab bar, then Manage Team > SSO.
  2. Copy Your Inoreader Single Sign-On URL and Your Inoreader Entity ID into the SAML app in your identity provider.
  3. Under Team authentication, choose SAML Single Sign-On and enter the Email domain.
  4. Paste the provider's SAML Sign-On URL, SAML Entity ID and Signing certificate.
  5. Click Save.

A Team has one domain. A domain already used by another Team is refused, and so is a public mail domain such as gmail.com or outlook.com.

Turning SSO on deletes the Team's pending email invitations.
