Introducing new rule triggers and actions: Translations, summaries, and more

Rules are one of Inoreader’s most powerful automation tools. They help you organize and manage content effortlessly, saving valuable time every day. Once created, rules automatically check all new incoming articles against the conditions you’ve set and perform actions when a match is found. You can use them to tag articles, save them to Read later, send mobile push notifications, mark them as read, and much more. Now, we’re making rules even more flexible with new triggers and actions, giving you greater control over how your Inoreader works for you.

New rule triggers

We’ve added two new triggers to supercharge your automations:

  • New Intelligence report: Start a rule whenever you generate an Intelligence report.
  • New upload: Trigger actions automatically when you upload a new file.

Use these as the first step of your automation flow to send reports or files to email, Team channels, or external services – all based on the conditions you define.

New rule actions

We didn’t stop at triggers. We’re also introducing four new actions to make your rules more capable than ever:

  • Create summary: Automatically generate summaries for new articles.
  • Translate article: Instantly translate content into a selected language (up to 100 automatic translations per day).
  • Add note: Attach custom notes to saved articles that meet your criteria.
  • Send to Raindrop.io: Save selected articles directly to your Raindrop.io collections.

Pro tip: To make the most of automatic translations, use them on pre-filtered content only (for example, articles with specific tags).

Example use cases

Here are just a few ways you can use the new triggers and actions:

  • Automatically send new Intelligence reports that match certain criteria to Team channels and keep everyone informed.
  • Automatically send new uploads to external services like Google Drive or Dropbox.
  • Summarize new articles saved to your Read later list.
  • Translate new articles that aren’t in your default language.
  • Add notes to saved web pages from specific sources.
  • Send new articles from a particular Team channel directly to Raindrop.io.

Mobile app updates

All new rule triggers and actions are now available on iOS and Android (version 7.9.6 and up). We’ve also introduced our Raindrop.io integration on mobile, letting you send content directly from Inoreader to Raindrop right from the apps.
