What layout options are available?
Five layouts work everywhere, List, Expanded, Column, Card and Magazine, and Read later and Archive add a sixth, Reading list. Pick one from the Layout list in the header's More (three-dot) menu or press its number key, 1 to 5, or 6 for Reading list. Inoreader remembers the choice for each feed and folder, and a new account starts in Card.
Pick a layout
- Open a feed, folder or tag.
- Click the More (three-dot) button at the right of the header. The Layout list is at the top of the menu.
- Choose List, Expanded, Column, Card or Magazine, or press 1 to 5. The feed or folder keeps that layout, and a layout chosen on a folder also applies to every feed in it.
- To change the layout for everything without a choice of its own, go to Preferences > Settings > Article listing > Layout.

Different feeds can use different layouts, and the video shows them side by side.
The five layouts
List shows one row per article, and a click expands the article in place. Its options under Preferences > Settings > Article listing are Show titles only, Auto collapse, Auto scroll and a Density of Comfort, Compact or Ultra.
Expanded shows every article in full, one under the other.
Column keeps the list on the left and opens the article on the right of the reading panel, with Column view thumbnails and a Density of Comfort or Compact as its options. Column is a desktop layout: on a phone, a feed set to Column shows Magazine instead.
Card lays the articles out as tiles with a picture, and Magazine puts the picture beside the title and summary. In both, the article opens in a window over the list.
Layouts of Read later, Archive and Today
Read later and Archive have a layout only they offer, Reading list (6), with a picture, the title, a snippet, the source, the length and the date saved on each row, and they open in it until you pick another layout there. The five other layouts work there too, and Read later and Archive each remember their own choice. In Today, the layout button sits in the section's own bar.
Options that depend on the layout
Show saved articles first works in List and Card, Open original webpages in List, Card and Magazine, and the article text's Layout (its width and alignment, under Article layout & text) in List, Expanded and Column. Scroll tracking under Mark as read behavior is set per layout. Preferences > Account > Reset account > Reset custom view styles returns every feed and folder to the default layout. The sorting options and the other display settings have articles of their own.
Plans
All the layouts, Reading list included, are on every plan.
