How many languages are supported for translations?

You can translate articles into 48 languages, chosen under Translate articles to in Preferences > Settings > Article translations, and a rule can translate them into 90. The source language is detected from the article itself, so there is nothing to pick for it.

See the list

  1. Click the gear (Preferences) at the bottom of the tab bar and go to Settings > Article translations.
  2. Open Translate articles to to see the languages and pick yours.

The list starts with Interface language, which is the default, followed by Albanian, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Basque, Bengali, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Esperanto, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Kyrgyz, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian Bokmål, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian and Urdu.

The field shows only while Offer translations isn't set to Never. Can I control when article translations are offered? explains that setting.

Source and target languages

The bar above a translated article names the detected source: "Translated from French by Inoreader." Chinese Simplified and Chinese Traditional are separate targets, and Portuguese is translated into Brazilian Portuguese. Languages written right to left, such as Arabic, Hebrew and Persian, switch the text direction of the translated article. Translations run on Inoreader's own servers. The blog post Translations & text-to-speech: More control, now for everyone introduces that.

Languages you read, the list that keeps the button off articles you don't need translated, is chosen from the interface languages, which is a different list from the targets. A rule's Translate article action has its own list of 90 languages, picked in the action, as Can translations be automated? describes.

Plans and limits

Every plan can pick any of the languages. Free accounts get 10 translations a day and Pro has no daily limit. How do I translate an article? has the steps, and the feature page Read any feed in your language an overview.
